Electronics
In 1971, IDS made its foray into the myriad world of electronics through a
profile of scientific measuring instruments. Since then, directly or
indirectly, IDS has been working in this field through its studies in core
sectors where electronics play an even greater role.
Studies on computers, telecommunication, computer integrated manufacturing
systems (CIMS) etc were carried out in recent years for clients like the US
Embassy, Istel Automation Ltd., UK and DCM Limited. In a more recent survey,
IDS covered the emerging area of value-added telecom services such as
electronic mail; VSATs, WANs, etc.
Energy
/ Environment
Existing energy sources in India and their usage plus the possibilities of
reducing dependence on oil as an energy source have been examined by IDS. A
assignment for the Asian Development Bank assessed the current status of
energy conservation in selected sectors and made recommendations for more
efficient use of energy. Identification of mini-micro hydel projects,
feasibility studies on captive power plants, feasibility of using CNG as an
alternate fuel and a study of the non-conventional sources of energy are
part of the IDS experience in energy.
